Back to Blogging

After almost a 2 year hiatus, I decided to start blogging again. I've been so busy and sleep deprived over the past year or so that I've spent almost all of my free time catching up on sleep. What have I been doing in the past 2 years? Well, I can probably make a list...

  • I've turned 30... Well, I heard 30 is the new 20... I feel order physically, but I feel more carefree about life.
  • I went back to university and actually finished my my courses. I still have to start my thesis though.
  • Stopped collecting make up until I can at least make a dent on at least a dozen of my blushes.
  • We had our first attempt at IVF. The result was negative, but we'll definitely try again.
  • We built our first house! This is our largest project ever. We've now moved in to our new house for about 2 months. We've been putting up little decor here and there during weekend, which I will share with you more in the next couple of weeks.
  • I've grown a fondness for batik fabric, Indonesia's traditional material
  • HY changed job... twice!
  • I'm starting a business venture with my sister on something we both love. FASHION!
Now that our house is completed, I have a little bit of free time to start blogging again. However, since I've made a promise to only purchase make up that I need and not what I want, I will share about things which interest me from fashion, beauty, food, recipes, decor, and anything else that caught my attention. Hope it'll be interesting enough to share with you.

Another update...

I'm doing another blogger template update because some visitors were kind enough to let me know that my old layout was doing crazy things when accessed using Internet Explorer. Since I have no idea what could cause the problem other than that the template was made to be compatible with Mozilla Firefox only, so the easiest solution was to replace the template with a new one that's compatible on both IE and Firefox. Silly me... I should've checked the template before hand rather than changing it only after a month!

So another face lift to this blog. It's only 6 months old and 2 face lifts already... Doesn't it a close enough reflection of the my own vanity :p

I'm baaaackkk... from my family summer cruise holiday ;)

I'm back from my two weeks cruise holiday with my family. We (all nine of us, including my sister who already lives in London) have planned and booked for a cruise holiday on the Baltic since the beginning of the year. So I've been saving up and looking forward for the cruise for almost 6 months!

Before I continue rambling on, here is a snapshot of my HUUUUGGEEEE(!!!) Beauty Haul. Well, I basically spent most of my money buying beauty products(and chocolates).

If you want to know what I bought in detail, come back in a few days as I'll write more about what I bought in a separate post... This post is dedicated only for the trip... :)

What beauty items to pack for Summer Holiday?

Tomorrow, I’m departing to London to visit my sister and to go on a two weeks cruise around Northern Europe. I’m packing light since I don’t wanna be dragging huge suitcases around Europe and into our small cabin. Also, I’ll probably do some major haul overseas, so I’m reserving extra space for all the goodies bought overseas. So I’ve been thinking of what make-up items should I be packing for the trip.

Coral for Summer Holiday

With summer on its way, I’ve noticed a colorful array of clothing, shoes, bags, and cosmetics. I gotta say that CORAL is my favorite color for summer. Mixing coral with turquoise on top of a white palette is my perfect idea of dressing up for the summer.

ELVIS MINI SKIRT, 375 GBP
Light Coral Triangle Bikini, 89 EUR

2. Guerlain Giulette (#63) Rouge G Lipstick (image credit: temptalia)

3. MAC Powder Blush in Hipness - Repromote from MAC To The Beach Collection (image credit: temptalia)

New Widget & My First Attempt at IUI

First thing first, I added a new Widget for those who would like to follow my blog. I didn’t want to use the follower widget before since I’m not sure anyone would actually read my blog. But I noticed people do read the blog and I started to make friends through the blog, so I guess putting a follower widget will make it easier for some to access the blog.

Now, all widgets aside, I’d like to share my first attempt experience at IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination). I know that there are hundreds if not thousands blogs dedicated for fertility issues online, and you can probably find whatever I write here somewhere else. But as it is currently one of the biggest struggles in my life, I just thought sharing my experience would empower others facing the same issues or coming from the same background as I am.

I’ve been trying for babies since my wedding day, which is nearly 2 years ago. I love babies and kids. And my friends always said that I can do baby talk, which simply means that I can communicate with babies/kids better than most adults. So I want a big family, with at least 4 children… hahaha… (I’ll probably change my mind after the first one, but it’s 4 children is the target right now). Everyone of my married friends have either had a baby (or two) or are currently pregnant. Only a few are still trying hard to conceive.

So far I’ve seen 3 fertility doctors. The general consensus is that I have two ovarium cysts that are small enough that I don’t need to operate on it yet, but do reduce my chances of getting pregnant. My last fertility doctor told me to do an IUI.

Before the IUI, I was given medicine and shots to improve the quality and quantity of the eggs. For me this was the hardest process since I wasn’t allowed to buy the injections and do the shots my self at home. So I had to drive back and forth to the clinic about 4 times a week to get myself injected. Nearing my ovulation period, the doctor gave me a different injection (I think it’s called HCG injection) to help trigger the release of the eggs. The next day after HCG, HY went to the clinic to give his sperms to be used in IUI. The sperms are washed and good ones are selected to be inserted directly to my womb.

I was told to drink lots of water before hand as I need to have full bladder before the doctor performed IUI. When my bladder is full, the doctor inserted the washed sperms directly to my womb. Afterwards, I was tilted back and was kept in that position for about 30 minutes. When everything was done, I was given another medication called Crinone, which is a progesterone gel to help the implantation process.

This was my first attempt at IUI and it wasn’t successful. I felt so down on the first day of my period, especially since HY was out of town on business and I had nobody to talk to.

Before I underwent IUI, I shared my intention to some of my friends. Their reaction varied from being very supportive and comforting to advising me to 'just do it the natural way'. The thing is, I’ve been trying ‘the natural way’ for nearly two years and I was ready to try almost anything to get results.

I’ve come to realize that there are still people who think that getting pregnant from fertility treatment or any artificial insemination is less than getting pregnant the natural way. For me, wanting to get pregnant and trying your hands on almost anything simply shows how badly someone wants it.

With the increase of women’s role in family and workplace, getting pregnant is more difficult nowadays. However, not enough people are sharing what they went through or willing to go through to get pregnant, and when they do get pregnant they don’t acknowledge how difficult it is to get pregnant. I want to have an open attitude about what I’m going through in life, because I do not feel so alone when I now that there are women out there going through what I am going through.

I realized that I still have a long journey to motherhood ahead of me. At the end, getting pregnant will simply be a blessing from God, but I’m willing to go the extra mile to get there. I hope whoever’s reading my post and going through the same process does not feel so alone and will continue their effort in TTC.

Just a note, I also read Giuliana Ransic’s website/blog and she posted about her IVF journey. I’m glad a celebrity is actually open with her effort to conceive. I truly wish her all the best with her IVF treatment…

It's my bday! And happy mothers' day!!

It's my b'day and I've got some of the things I love for my b'day presents. My dear HY bought me a pile of cosmetics (Gosh, that's why I love him..), my parents bought me some really nice clothings and a new nikon SLR!!!

I guess I just wanna thank God from the bottom of my heart, since I've got everything I ever need and more! I'm so blessed with a wonderful and loving husband (ok, we do have our moments, but being married to him is probably one of the smartest decisions I've ever made), a loving and supportive family, and my exceptionally crazy group of friends, which do make life much more colorful. I have a good job in a place that I love... So what else can I ask for? (Babies maybe, but I guess it'll happen in due time...)

Last but not least... Happy mothers day to all mothers out there!!! Hope this will be a great day for you and enjoy...

Kartini's Day

Indonesians celebrate Kartini’s Day every April 21st. Kartini is an Indonesian national hero who fights for women’s equality. She was born in a noble family and thus enjoy the privileges of basic education (back then it was reading and writing) and maintain good relationship with the Dutch. The first school for women were opened and run by her. Unfortunately she died young while giving birth to her first child.

I remembered my kindergarten years where we celebrate Kartini’s Day by dressing up in Indonesian traditional outfits. We have about 30 different provinces and each has its own traditional outfits, so you can imagine the variety of outfits worn on the day! My mom actually skipped work so she can took me to school and see hundreds of kids dressed in colorful and sometimes oversized traditional outfits. Nowadays, when we refer to traditional outfits, mainly only kebaya and batik come to mind. And kebaya has been reinvented so many times that what used to be a plain and traditional outfit has become quite glamorous.

sources: google image

Hmmmm... kebaya really help to shape your silhouette. I just love how womanly someone looks, as soon as she puts on a kebaya!

Nowadays, we don’t really celebrate Kartini's Day anymore. But this year, my office sent out a notice granting us 1 day to wear Indonesian traditional outfits (mainly kebaya and batik). I didn’t feel like wearing kebaya or batik today, as it takes significant effort to wear kebaya for a full day at work! I guess you can see that it’s simply an uncomfortable outfit to wear, but you can look few kilos lighter if you wear them right ;)

I guess my celebration will be limited to posting some pictures of me in kebaya Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I just realised that the only pictures of me in kebaya are wedding pictures! Or something related to my wedding. The picture above was my engagement (yes, it was held at the church! Don't ask me why. Traditional rituals and stuff...).

This picture is awfully dark! I guess it's been edited.
But don't you think I look scared?!?
Walking down the aisle is damn scary.

Finally I found a full body picture of me in Kebaya. But where the hell is my sash???
Oh well, I give up!!

Adding a point to my new year's resolution (in April...)... I promise to be a proud Indonesian woman by wearing kebaya more often...

Intermezzo

I was waiting to catch a flight back to Jakarta when I saw an elderly couple walking ever so slowly, holding hands, along the airport corridor. The elderly man was holding his dear wife hand with his left hand, and he was pulling their cabin lugage. The elderly lady kept her eyes on the gate number signs..

When I saw this, I can't help but hope that HY and I will grow old together, and when we're old and ugly.. we'll still hold each others hands like today..

Honeymoon Dessert Night

I've been craving some desserts from honeymoon dessert for ages and my loveable husband (from now on I'll call him HY) took me there last weekend and said that he will just skip dinner all together since we had a big lunch. I gotta say it was a very nice gesture from him since he hates sweets and desserts.

We started by ordering my favorite dessert... Snow White Sago and Thai Black Glutinous Rice with Durian in Coconut Milk. Yeah... I did order two desserts for my self... didn't really think I would finish them... but I thought I could always 'gently force' HY to finish them for me.

When the order came, I literally dive into the vanilla coconut milk syrup... I've wanted to have these desserts for so long, but we really never had the time. I just love milky and fruity flavor of the syrup, and the durian tasted soooo good with the coconut syrup (and high in cholesterol I'm sure... but none of the healthy stuff ever taste good).

HY is easily intrigued when it comes to trying new food. So even though he hates desserts, he asked for extra bowl and spoon and shared the desserts with me. He liked it so much that he ordered two more desserts. We had durian pancake and green bean with black sesame soup. He ordered the black sesame soup since he remembers that I love black sesame ice cream... aaooowww... sweet isn't he? ;)

credits: www.honeymoon-dessert.com

The durian pancake tasted light, sweet, and the combination of texture was simply delightful. Too bad they only gave us two pieces. The soup was kinda scary. It looks like squid ink! Or something icky that shouldn't be eaten!! But it tasted quite good. You can really taste the black sesame and it kinda sticks all over your teeth... hehehehe... not a pretty sight...

At the end, we finished all four servings of dessert and went home with a sugar high. With me drawing on a conclusion, that your preference is greatly influenced by those around you, especially those you care the most. My husband who professes to love all things with protein and despises sweet as it provides no benefit to our body was happy to finish four bowls of desserts, just because I was so excited to have them.

My New Year's resolution

One of my New Year's resolutions which I haven't disclosed to anyone, even my husband, is to write more. So I've started a blog, painstakingly customized the layout with my minuscule know-how on blogging… and now I have a blog dedicated to my live, love and love of red shoes..

But the first real entry would have to wait till later…
